Popular events promoter Abby Musinguzi also known as Abtex has been apprehended following a stampede at a New Year event that claimed 10 lives at Freedom City Mall, Namasuba.
Abtex was arrested following the death of about 10 people after the host of the event rallied pleasure seekers to rush out to watch fireworks a few minutes before midnight.
In the due course of storming out to watch fireworks, they collided at the entrance and at least nine breathed their last, leaving several injured.
While addressing journalists at the police headquarters in Naguru this afternoon, police spokesperson Fred Enanga says they are also hunting for other event organizers who were part of the fateful event.
Enanga says Abitex is charged with negligence that could have caused the death of 10 people.
He adds that they are also considering a similar charge against parents of children below 18 years who died in this stampede.
