Jacob Kiplimo shatters Joshua Cheptegei’s record to win gold at Commonwealth games

Ugandan long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo has again waved the national flag high following his impressive gold medal win at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after winning the men’s 10,000m final to take gold.

The 21-year-old Kiplimo broke gold medallist Joshua Cheptegei’s 10,000m record in a stunning time of 27:09:19 marking a new world record.

Speaking to the media after the sprint, Kiplimo said he was confident that he would win since the pace was a little bit slow.

“I am very excited…today I knew I would win because I saw the pace was a little bit slow,” Kiplimo

Kiplimo’s victory was Uganda’s fifth successive time winning the Gold medal in this particular race.

Uganda has won gold in this race since 2006;

2018 in Gold Coast- Joshua Cheptegei,

2014 in Glasgow –Moses Kipsiro,

2010 in New Delhi – Moses Kipsiro, and in

2006 in Melbourne- Boniface Kiprop
