Kawempe North MP-elect Ssegirinya Muhammad detained for leading a protest

The latest update reaching our news desk indicates that Kawempe North MP-elect Hon. Ssegirinya Muhammad has been arrested while leading a peaceful protest against injustices going on in Uganda.

The newly-elected MP who is just waiting to be sworn in May was arrested by Police from Mini Price in downtown Kampala after he attempted to lead a protest demanding the release of NUP supporters who are being detained incommunicado.

The news concerning Ssegirinya’s arrest was first made public by Kawempe South MP-elect Kazibwe Bashir via his social media platforms.

Ssegirinya has been in the spotlight since last week after it emerged that his academic documents had issues as he was sued to have his election victory overturned.

For now we are not sure of where he is currently being detained from but we will keep you posted as more information comes in.
