Angry residents in Mubende District chased Bukoto South MP Twaha Kagabo off stage following his hate speech against the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Kagabo had been allowed to address locals during the NRM Buganda Parliamentary Caucus at Kassana playground in Mubende.
The MP began by congratulating the people of Mubende on the development brought about by the NRM government.
“People of Mubende, you are fortunate. When I arrived here, I saw good roads and markets. You should thank the NRM government,” said Kagabo.
He went on to thank the people of Mubende for not voting for NUP during the 2021 general elections, calling NUP a “disease” that spread across many districts in Buganda.
“I want to thank you, the people of Mubende, for not supporting this disease called NUP, which developed during the past elections,” he said.
The statement sparked outrage, leaving the crowd furious. The gathering began shouting at him and eventually forced him off the stage.
“Leave the stage! Leave the stage!” the locals screamed.
The angry residents overpowered him despite his insistence on attempting to continue his speech. Kagabo then ended by inviting Kyankwanzi Woman MP Christine Bukenya to address the people.
“Okay, let me call Honourable Christine to say a word to you,” he said.
Despite the humiliation, none of the NRM members present reacted to the actions taken by the residents.
Anonymous NUP supporters saw the incident as a sign of victory ahead of the next elections.
“If NRM supporters can chase Kagabo for abusing NUP, it shows that our people love NUP, and we are ready to receive our victory in 2026,” said a NUP member.
In 2021, Mubende was among the few districts in Buganda that voted for NRM with over 80% of the vote.
