Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja met with Annet Nansubuga, widow of Yasin Kawuma, the late driver of National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi a.k.a Bobi Wine.
Nansubuga, who resides in a rented house in Lusanja village, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District, shared with PM Nabbanja the untold hardships her family has endured since the tragic death of her husband, who was the sole breadwinner.
She spoke of the family’s struggles with inadequate shelter, lack of income, and the inability to afford school fees and other necessities.
Kawuma was shot dead on August 13, 2018, while waiting behind the wheels of Bobi Wine’s car at the Pacific Hotel in Arua City during the ill-fated Arua Municipality by-election.
According to Nansubuga, the death of Kawuma left her family hopeless, noting that despite several promises from Kyagulanyi and NUP following her husband’s death, they had received no tangible support.
In response, Ms Nabbanja pledged to assist the family, assuring Nansubuga that her office would purchase land and construct a house for her and her children.
Kawuma, who had been serving as Robert Kyagulanyi’s driver for many years, was shot and killed during clashes in Arua Town in August 2018.
The violence broke out between security forces and supporters of Kasiano Wadri, one of the candidates in the Arua Municipality parliamentary by-election.
The incident reportedly began when individuals wearing Wadri’s campaign shirts threw stones at the president’s convoy as President Museveni was leaving Boma Grounds, after attending the final rally for the NRM party’s candidate, Nusura Tiperu.
