In a heartwarming and extraordinary event, 40-year-old Glorious Betonde has given birth to sextuplets—five boys and one girl.
The babies were delivered via cesarean section at Neo Care Fertility Centre in Mbarara City, just seven months into her pregnancy.
New Vision reports that the rare birth occurred on Good Friday and has since drawn nationwide attention and admiration.
The new mother told the media she was overjoyed and grateful for the blessing, terming it a “miracle.”
She was overcome with emotion following the safe delivery of her six babies in what was only her second pregnancy. The newborns were immediately transferred to the intensive care unit at Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital in Nyamitanga, where a dedicated medical team is providing round-the-clock care.
Dr Mike Kyewalyanga, a paediatrician at the facility, said the medical team is closely monitoring the babies, who are facing typical preterm challenges such as breathing and feeding difficulties. “However, we are confident in our ability to manage their care, having handled similar cases successfully in the past,” he stated. The proud father, Vincent Tumwesigye, expressed his deep joy and gratitude, adding that the birth was an incredible blessing.
He expressed how thrilled and grateful he was for the gift of six beautiful children.
The miraculous birth has captured the hearts of many across the country. Local leaders and residents have flooded the couple with congratulatory messages.
