National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President for Western Uganda Jolly Mugisha has died.
Mugisha passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where she had been in a coma for several weeks.
She breathed her last aged 58.
The news of her death was confirmed by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, who expressed his condolences and honored her legacy.
“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Jolly Mugisha. Mama Jolly has passed on this afternoon from Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital where she has been admitted in a coma for several weeks. Mama Jolly will always be remembered as a true Ugandan heroine. Rest in perfect peace, comrade Maama,” Kyagulanyi tweeted.
Mugisha had been an influential figure within the NUP and in Uganda’s political landscape, particularly in Western Uganda, where she tirelessly championed the party’s vision for justice, freedom, and equality.
Known for her steadfast commitment to the rights and welfare of Ugandans, she was widely respected by her peers and supporters for her courage and leadership.
Her passing is a significant loss for the NUP and the entire nation, as she had been a symbol of resilience and determination in the fight for a better Uganda.
She is remembered by many as a trailblazer who fearlessly advocated for the marginalised and inspired a new generation of Ugandan leaders.
