Incumbent Member of Parliament for Nakawa East, Hon. Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo, has voiced strong concerns over the recent political appointment of singer Hajjat Stecia Mayanja as president of the newly launched National Peasants Party (NPP).
Speaking candidly to the press, the Honorable Balimwezo questioned both the credibility and the intent behind Mayanja’s leadership of the nascent party.
According to the legislator, Hajjat Stecia lacks the necessary qualifications and understanding of political structures required to lead a party at the national level.

“I don’t believe she even has the qualifications that make her a leader of a political party,” he said. “I don’t think she knows the laws and regulations that run and govern a political party.”
He went on to suggest that the NPP’s formation is not rooted in a genuine desire to challenge the status quo but rather to fracture the opposition and inadvertently aid President Yoweri Museveni’s hold on power.
“President Museveni mastered one thing, which is divide and rule,” Hon. Balimwezo stated. “Her party formation is just a vote spoiler aimed at splitting the opposition vote.”
In a more conciliatory tone, Balimwezo called on Hajjat Stecia to reconsider her path and instead join one of the established opposition parties to foster unity against the long-standing NRM regime.
“I would humbly request that she calm down and either join some of the already existing parties,” he urged. “We need to gang together to oust Mr. Museveni.”
The formation of the NPP has sparked wide debate in political circles, with some viewing it as a fresh grassroots movement and others, like Hon. Balimwezo, seeing it as a strategic move that could undermine opposition efforts in the 2026 elections.
