  • BIOGRAPHY – SAM THE PSALMIST

“Breakthrough” is a deeply personal and spiritually significant song by Samuel Mubenesha, known professionally as Sam The Psalmist.

The song was written during a period of profound grief and struggle, the song captures a transformative moment in Sam’s life.

Sam hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and has a rich cultural background, having lived in Zambia, Botswana, and South Africa after fleeing violence in his homeland at a young age.

His upbringing, marked by a strict doctor father and a creatively driven mother, instilled in him resilience and a strong work ethic.

Though he began his musical journey as an accompanist at the age of twelve, he remained hesitant about singing until his twenties, when he started receiving songs through divine inspiration, ultimately embracing his role as a psalmist.

The song Breakthrough was birthed from a particularly difficult time, following the loss of
Sam’s father to COVID-19.

This loss left him devastated and struggling with his faith, unable to pray for months. However, during a morning devotional, he received a melody and lyrics that reignited his connection with God.

The song’s message—“I can see Your hand moving in this place”—became a symbol of hope and healing, reflecting Sam’s journey from despair to renewed faith.
