Ugandan rapper Recho Rey is charting her course, and unapologetically so.
In a recent interview with a local television station, the outspoken artist declared that she has no interest in either marriage or having children.
“I will never get married. Marriage is not something I fancy, and I will not also give birth. I have never received maternal instincts. I love children but never felt like giving birth to my own,” she said candidly.
Recho Rey’s statements have ignited a firestorm of discussion on social media, with responses ranging from supportive applause for her honesty to speculation that she might change her views with time.
Critics argue that societal norms may eventually sway her decisions, while supporters praise her for being bold enough to challenge long-held cultural expectations.
This isn’t the first time a female artist has pushed back against traditional roles. Several prominent women in the music industry have previously voiced similar views, only to revise them later.
Sheebah Karungi, for example, once expressed disinterest in motherhood but has since softened her stance.
Still, Recho Rey seems firm in her convictions—for now.
Whether her stance remains unchanged in the future or not, her perspective adds an important voice to the ongoing conversation about womanhood, personal choice, and societal pressure.
