Rapper Edwin Ruyonga has urged fellow artists to work hand in hand in the effort to raise the Ugandan music industry back to the top as it used to be in the early 2000s.
Reflecting on how Ugandans used to rank at the top, Ruyonga recounted the days when Ugandans often had several stars representing the nation at the most prestigious awards events across the continent.
However, that changed many years ago as the pages flipped and it is now Uganda lagging behind when it comes to music.
He recollected the days when Nigerian stars such as P-Square would admire Klear Cut but all that evaporated and vice versa is true since Nigerian music is now so many miles far away from the Ugandan industry.
During an interview, he tasked fellow artists to unite and be humble to each other noting that it is the only way Ugandan music would thrive and start crossing borders and compete favorably with other nations.
“We must apply ourselves for the Ugandan music industry to go beyond borders, we need unity. We are not united like the Nigerians though they fight at home but when they are outside, they are one and pull each other. But Ugandans are not humble and we need humility” Ruyonga
He also spoke about how he balances his singing career and Graphic Designing, as a profession adding that it has helped him grow and develope on his skill
