Police in Wakiso have arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife after catching her having sex with another man in their marital house.
According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened at Nsinze -Mulume village, Masuulita sub-county in Wakiso district when Mesach Ssekanjako, 33 killed his wife, Proscovia Nakyanzi, 33.
“It’s alleged that at around 9 pm, Nakyanzi, now deceased left Masulita town and went back home with a bodaboda man known as Ivan who is believed to be her side-man friend. It’s further alleged that the suspect Ssekanjako found the two in his house which caused a fight where the suspect grabbed a knife and cut the neck of his wife,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that the deceased’s body was recovered at around 10 am on Sunday in the compound, adding that when a police sniffer dog was introduced, it led detectives to the home of the suspect’s mother, Robinah Namata, 60.
“The sniffer dog for canine led us to the suspect’s mother’s home approximately 1 km from the crime scene where we found the suspect’s trousers already washed by the mother and recovered for possible DNA traces,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that at the scene, the prime suspect, Ssekanjako’s shirt was recovered as well as blood stains suspected to be from the deceased.
Owoyesigyire added that on arrest, fresh cuts and bites where found on the fingers of the right hand of the suspect.
“The scene was both indoor and outdoor and it was observed that the fight
started from inside a double-roomed house where the couple resided as the rooms were in disarray with suspected blood stains and smears on floors of both sitting and bedroom.”
He said Ssekanjako and his 60-year-old mother are currently detained at Kakiri police station as investigations continue, adding that it is alleged the knife used in the murder was dumped in the toilet.
“All the exhibits recovered have been taken to the forensic Lab for DNA analysis.”
The Kampala police spokesperson warned couples against taking matters into their own hands but rather solve such issues amicably.
