Afro-pop star-cum-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine and his legal team have withdrawn a complaint of canceling his music shows from the Uganda Human Rights Commission.
Speaking to journalists, explained that he decided citing that the Commission chairperson is biased and lacked independence, and impartiality to handle the matter.
He added that he filed the case on the 17th of December 2018 but for five years the file has not been heard and when Ms. Mariam Wangadya gave him the chance for the case to be heard, she did not allow him to express himself
“We have withdrawn our complaint from the Uganda Human Rights Commission because it is clearly biased, and lacking the independence, and impartiality to handle this case. I filed this matter on the 17th of December 2018. For more than five years, they have not been giving me the chance to hear and when I was given the chance, she wouldn’t allow me to express myself. She couldn’t allow me to make a personal statement. That shows she is biased and she is not willing to respect human rights and that shows she is working in the interests of Gen. Museveni and she is willing to do anything that will preserve Gen. Museveni’s rule even if it means empowering and protecting those who violate human rights. So for that reason, we have withdrawn our complaint from this commission”, Bobi Wine
The musician cum politician petitioned the commission saying security agencies had blocked over 20 music concerts he was supposed to perform at, confiscated music equipment, and denied several people their rights to earn a living because of their political affiliation.
Bobi Wine furthermore reminded the public about how they complained about people’s mysterious disappearances but Ms. Wangadya dismissed the reports when she stated that the people whose families claim that their members disappeared are non-existent.
He went on to reveal that when he made his statement today, he was blocked, a sign that showed she is biased, and thus Bobi Wine was left with no option but to withdraw the case from her office.
